Chch man awarded fellowship

Wellington reporter A Christchurch man is one of four Anzac Fellowship recipients this year.

Mr Nelson Jack, an education officer in the Education Department, will go to Australia on a fellowship to study the development of special education programmes in penal institutions.

The other fellowship recipients, announced yesterday, are Ms Frances Joychild, of Auckland, Ms Elizabeth Vaneveld, of Whangarei, and Mr Anthony Haslett, of Rotorua.

Ms Joychild, a Human Rights Commission mediation officer, will study the work of Australian equal opportunity bodies. Ms Vaneveld, an officer of the Whangarei Community Arts Council, will look at the community arts movement across the Tasman.

Mr Haslett, a Forest Service scientist, will visit a sawmill training centre in Victoria.

Three Australians have been selected to come to New Zealand under the fellowship scheme, which was established in 1967 to enable citizens of both countries to study or train in the other country.
