Justice Secretary appointed

PA Wellington Mr David Oughton has been appointed Secretary for Justice. The chairman of the State Services Commission, Dr Mervyn Probine, said Mr Oughton would succeed Mr Jim Callahan, who would retire in May. Mr Oughton was appointed to the Public Service as a clerical cadet in the Christchurch office of the Ministry of Works in January, 1953. He filled a number of positions in the Christchurch area until in June 1960 he transferred to head office and in 1961 was appointed staff clerk. He transferred to the State Services Commission in 1962 as an inspector. In 1972 he was appointed Director of Administration at D.S.I.R. Head Office, and in 1976 transferred back to the Ministry of Works and Development as director of personnel. Dr Probine said Mr Oughton was appointed deputy secretary (administration) in the Justice Department in October, 1977.
