It has been a marvellous season for Canterbury cricket. The women retained the Hansells Cup and won the under-19 tournament, the men have won the Shell Cup, the national under-20 and under-18 championships and, on Sunday, clinched the national second Xls title. Four of the five rounds have been played in the national second Xls championship, a round-robin competition among the main associations, and Canterbury’s outright decision over Northern Districts in Morrinsville on Sunday placed it in an unbeatable position.
Canterbury B will still have a point to prove when it meets Wellington B in its—final match at Hagley 1 from today to Thursday. As with Canterbury, Wellington has gone through the first four rounds unbeaten, but it has been unable to gain an outright win whereas Canterbury has managed two.
