Pay talks break down
PA Wellington Technicians in hospital laboratories say their pay talks have broken down, and that they are considering industrial action. The Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology has called meetings of members throughout New Zealand to consider giving the Health Services Personnel Cpmmis-
sion and all hospital boards 14 days notice of industrial action. The laboratory workers said that in most cases they had been offered no more than the State Services salary movement and that the institute was reconsidering industrial action. They said they felt the commission did not want
the impact of the nurses’ settlement to flow on to other health service groups.
This stance was an attempt to ignore traditional relativities between health sector groups who were all experiencing significant problems in recruitment and retention of staff, said the technicians.
