Heathcote wind scheme

Canterbury looks set to become the site of one of the first commercial windpowered electricity generators in New Zealand. A proposal to put a windgiwered generator in eathcote County was approved by the county council late last year.

Provided there is no objection to the planning application the generator will be installed on a remote area of Huntsbury Spur in Bowenvale Park within the next few months. It will be installed on council land by A.S.E.A., a Swedish multi-national elec-

trical company, which would own the generator. The council would buy power from the company at the same price it bought power from the Electricity Division. The electricity would be fed into the national grid via a nearby high-voltage line.
