Zimbabwe
Sir,—Where is all the outcry from those supposed friends of black Africa, now that Zimbabwe is to become a one-party socialist State? Mr Robert Mugabe has announced plans to merge his ruling Z.A.P.U. party with the rival ZJLN.U. party of Joshua Nkomo. Is this the “democracy” and “majority rule” that Rhodesia was betrayed for? Now that Mr Mugabe will have ndkpolitical opposition, who will stop the slaughter of the Matabeles
or anyone else who may pose a threat to. his power monopoly? The West has sold Zimbabwe into dictatorship and mayhem. ■ Ironically, South Africa is now the only major force saving Zimbabwe’s population from Marxist terror and'mass murder — another Ethiopia. — Yours, etc T. R. LOUDON. Kaiapbi. ! January 2, 1986.
