Comet fans extend flight times
PA Wellington Mount Cook Airline has extended its summer timetable by one month, and Halley’s Comet followers are one reason.
The summer timetable operates originally from mid-October to the end of March. But Mount Cook Lines’ Public affairs manager, Mr ed Beckett, said increases in overseas demand meant it had to be extended to the end of April.
The increase was expected to be about 20 per cent on the 29,000 passengers carried at the corresponding time last year, said Mr Beckett.
It was caused by the lack of accommodation early in the year, making people book in April, Halley’s Comet followers wanting to see it in the southern hemisphere, and the general increase in interest in New Zealand, he said.
