Cot death report
PA Wellington The report of an inquiry into cot deaths in New Zealand will be issued by the Minister of Health, Dr Bassett, next week.
The 30-page report of a national steering committee is not expected to pinpoint the reason for cot deaths, the “Dominion” in Wellington reports. However, the report is believed to contain several recommendations on preventative measures, says the newspaper. These highlight the need for educating young mothers, establishing cot death assessment centres, counselling and further research. The Government asked the committee to develop policy proposals on cot death prevention and to establish guidelines and proposals for implementing new policies.
