Mooneys easy qualifiers for tennis open
Qualifying rounds were completed at the Skellerup AH Stars Canterbury tennis open at Wilding Park yesterday. A total of eight players qualified to join the firstround draw, with the Canterbury brothers, Michael and Terry Mooney, making short work of their opponents to qualify. Results of qualifying matches in the men’s section yesterday were: S. Cargo (Auckland) beat R. Barnett (Auckland), 6-3, 6-0; M. Mooney (Canterbury) beat S. Ferguson (Auckland), 6-3, 6-4; T,. Mooney (Canterbury) beat J. Moores (Auckland), 6-3, 6-1; A. Chapman (Canterbury) beat T. Moore (Auckland) 6-4, 6-3; L. Diesendach (Queensland) beat A. Cotterill (Nelson), 61, 6-3; G. Hansford (Auckland) beat C. Ashman (New South Wales), 6-0, 6-1; G. Wilson (Nelson) beat P. Mangan (U.S.A.), 6-0, 0-6, 6-4; M. Ridge (Auckland) beat V.
Aubrey (Canterbury), 6-4, 7.5.
The draw for the women’s first round, to be held today, is: K. Cox (Australia) v. R. Wilson (Canterbury); L. Stewart (Auckland) v. N. Roberts (N.S.W.); A. Smith (N.S.W.) v. R. Seeman (Nelson); E.
