Random Chance fancied

Special correspondent Dunedin Random Chance should do his Central Otago owners proud by winning the Alexandra Transport Handicap, the feature race on the first day of the Vincent Jockey Club’s meeting at Omakau tomorrow. Owned at Springvale (about 15km from Omakau) by Garry McDonnell, a steward of the Vincent Club and his wife, Lorraine, Random Chance is high among the three-year-old ratings with a win in. the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas and a last-start third in the New Zealand Derby. The Derby was over 2400 m and the 2000 m tomorrow should prove an ideal distance for Random Chance. Random Chance has thrived since his Derby third to Bonecrusher and Flight Bijou at Ellerslie a fortnight ago. Random Chance’s North Taieri trainer, Brian Anderton, won the corresponding event with' the three-year-old filly, Smart Mellay, in 1972. Another three-year-old to win the race was Waronui in 1977.
