Auckland’s big innings
Auckland’s 454 for five wickets in the Shell Trophy cricket match which ended yesterday was its largest total against Canterbury since 1939-40. That summer it made 693 for nine, still the biggest first-class innings at Eden Park. It was also the highest score registered against
Canterbury in an inter-pro-vincial game at Lancaster Park for 33 years. In 1952-53 Otago was all out for 500, with Bert Sutcliffe establishing his national individual record of 385. Canterbury most recently conceded more than 450 runs when Central Districts totalled 469 at McLean Park, Napier, in 1967-68.
