Decade for women
Sir,—White most of your readers would rate “The Press” one of the best newspapers in New Zealand and enjoyed your review of 1985, 52 per cent of readers have once again realised their achievements have gone almost unnoticed. It would be impossible to cover every happening, but why no acknowledgement that 1985 was the end of the U.N. Decade for Women, that more than 14,000 women met at Nairobi for a conference of great importance to women world wide while here in Christchurch over 1200 women celebrated over Queen’s Birthday? Those women who attended these and many happenings around the world all came to the same conclusion, “While we have made some gains, we have a long way to go before we can feel equal.” Ase we too.'late to suggest a New AYear
resolution for men? — that all men will accept women as equals and take the responsibility to prevent rape, incest and violence against women?—Yours, etc., NAN F ARRANT. January 7, 1986.
