Use of powers of entry?
. PA Hamilton The Electricity Division may have to use statutory powers of entry to survey transmission fine routes across farms below Mount Pirongia, south-west of Hamilton, if landowners continue to deny access. The division’s district manager, Mr Doug Pattenden, said letters would be delivered to the 200 or so landowners concerned, asking them to allow access to surveyors. The Electricity Division is examining different routes for a 220 kV line past Mount Pirongia to link the Huntly and Stratford power stations. Landowners on the proposed routes to the east of the mountain object to the line’s going through their area’s high-quality land and to the eyesore it would cause in front of the mountain. Mr Pattenden said farmers were planning a stalling game but the division hoped to get sufficient access so that surveyors would not have to go on all properties.
