Barley prices
The South Island Barley Society’s final price to growers with barley in the 1985 malting pool will be $200.57 a tonne. The price for barley in the general purpose pool (including undergrade Triumph) will be $190.03. The prices are based on port delivery in March. Storage increments will be paid for barley delivered after March. Mr G. B. Robertson, the society’s chairman, has welcomed the downward trend in the value of the New Zealand dollar. Together with a recent firming in the international grain market, the more favourable exchange rate suggested prices for the forthcoming harvest might be in line with those obtained this season.
