Special correspondent Auckland Allowed a bit more luck than he had last time, at Te Aroha, Greatness will certainly go close again and perhaps win at Te Awamutu tomorrow. Against several quicker beginners, Greatness might have to give away fair starts in the early stages of the 1600 m Rose Town Handicap but if he runs up to his best form there is not likely to be a stronger finisher. Greatness came only third at Te Aroha, behind Kingdom Bay and Ma Chiquita, a length and a quarter away. But he would have been closer if able, earlier, to get a clear run at the leaders.

Greatness has raced with much credit up to 2400 m but

he gives the impression that 1600 m is the distance he goes best He will be one of the good gallopers expected to show up at Ellerslie in the rich Flag Inns Trophy. Ibidem, which was up alongside at the finish of the L.P.A. Potter Stakes at Te Aroha, is again one of the opponents for Greatness. The Marton mare, Mi Share, Gay Tripper and Clear Gold, for all his seven years, are others Greatness will need to beat so he faces a stiff assignment Ibidem has a fine record of good, honest performances and it was another that took her to fourth place at Te Aroha. Two starts previously she was a game runner-up to Eva Grace in a weight-for-age 1400 m at Rotorua.

Mi Share, after racing in

Australia, has returned to make a great show of form this season. Unplaced in her first start she has since, in six attempts, strung together two firsts, three second platings and a third.

When last north of her home district Mi Share won a class three 1400 m at Pukekohe on October 19. Meanwhile, she ran in two class one 1600 m events during the New Zealand Cup meeting, unable to quite hold the good gelding, Noble Note, but giving him a hard race each time.

Gay Tripper, judged by Te Aroha where he won a 1200 m so convincingly, is a prospect, while Shardalure and Derriana are such fast, free-going runners that they are almost certain to be very prominent
