One city

Sir,—lf you take a map of Christchurch and its environs, you will find, that roads radiate from Cathedral- Square in all directions — to Cashmere, to Belfast, to Lyttelton, to Hornby. At the hub is the magnifient Cathedral of the Diocese of Christchurch. In the New Zealand Liturgy used there, is the statement: “We who are many are one body, because we all partake of the one bread.” All people of whatever denomination who give allegiance to the same Master, are invited to share in the Communion. Before petty wrangling clouds the issue, should not we all, at a social level, accept a similar statement. “We who are many are all one body because we all elect the same Mayor and the same council?” If enough of us subscribed to the following 10 one-syllable words, it could be so. If it is to be, it is up to me.— Yours, etc., ERIC DASH. December 12, 1985.
