NZPA-AAP Sydney Seven of Australia’s most promising young cricketers will join test players Allan Border, Greg Matthews, Bruce Reid and Merv Hughes to form the Prime Minister’s XI to play New Zealand at Manuka Oval, Canberra, on January 22. The opening batsmen, Glenn Bishop (South Australia) and Mike Veletta (West Austalia), and a dashing New South Wales allrounder, Steve Waugh, are three youngsters on the verge of test selection who get the chance to show

The surprise omission from the P.M.’s team was a Nevi South Welshman, Peter' Clifford, who has been in great form but was forced to miss the match against South Australia.
