N.D. has three in N.Z. side
Despite finishing second from last in the Prudential under-20 cricket tournament, which ended at Hagley Oval, yesterday, Northern Districts has the best representation in the. New Zealand team to make an internal tour after Christmas. The team was announced at the end of the competition on a day in which rain washed out all play except for a brief period in the game between the top sides, Canterbury and Wellington. Canterbury added 25 runs and lost its captain, David Hartshorn, for 111, before the rain settled in, to assure the host side of victory in the tournament. Northern Districts has three players -in the New Zealand team, which was selected by Messrs Frank Cameron, Brian Andrews and John Wright. They are Grant Bradburn, /kddil Somani and Brian Spragg. Bradburn and Spragg are two of six players who have held their places in the national , side from last year’s New Zealand under--19 team.'/ £ ' <
The other four are Hartshorn who is the captain, as he was last year, Shane Robinson and Peter Dobbs, from Otago and Rob McKinlay, of Auckland. : The New Zealand team will begin a North Island tour with a two-day game against Hutt Valley on January 30-31. It will then have three further matches, all of three days duration: against Hawke’s Bay at Napier on February 2-4; against Hamilton at Hamilton on February 6-8; and against Auckland from February 10-12. - The full team is: Hartshorn (captain), Blair Hartland (both Canterbury); Robinson, (vicecaptain), Dobbs (both Otago), Bradburn, Somani, Spragg (Northern Districts), John Wilson (Central Districts), Henry Skipper, Fred Beyeler (Wellington); Brian Barrett and McKinlay (Auckland). - Scores in the final round.— .. Canterbury 280/6 (D. Hartshorn 111) met Wellington. Northern Districts 377/6 met Central Districts.
Otago 312 met Auckland 0/0. Final-points: Canterbury 50, Wellington 47, Auckland 39, Central Districts 25, Northern Districts 21, Otago 9.
