Winner of humorous short story contest

PA Hamilton Winner of the $3OO first prize in the Waikato Writers’ Association“Waikato Times” humorous short story competition is Graeme Lay, of Devonport, Auckland. His story, “The Emasculation of Barry,” was chosen from 130 entries. Jim Crawford, Morrins- ■ ville, took second prize of $lOO with “The Gabbler’s Stakes” and Douglas Coutts, Eastbourne, Wellington, won the $25 third prize with “Memories Are Made Of Bits.”

Winners of $lO highlycommended prizes, not in

order of preference, were: Joyce Thom (Lower Hutt), Elizabeth Pulford (Dunedin), G. S. Meakin (Hamilton), J. H. Bentley (Christchurch), Anthony Fostick (Dunedin), Mrs B. Hickey (Napier), Lou Charles (Hamilton), Helen Hallifax . (Christchurch), Leonie Dixon (Palmerston North), Elizabeth Pulford (Dunedin). The competition was organised by the Waikato Writers’ Association and the “Waikato Times” provided the prize money. A selection of the stories will be published in the “Waikato Times.”
