U.K.-US. N-test
A big underground nuclear weapons test, . conducted jointly for the United States and Britain, has been detonated in the Nevada desert 127 km north-west of Las Vegas. The test, code-named “Kinibito,” had an explosive yield of up to 150,000 tons of TNT, 10 times the explosive force of the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. The test measured 5.7 on the Richter scale at the National Earthquake Information Centre in Boulder, Colorado. The test was requested by the British Government and was conducted under the agreement for co-operation on uses of atomic energy for mutual defence purposes, said a Department of Energy spokesman. — Las Vegas.
