Cable-car proposal
Sir,—l agree with Marjorie Blake’s view (“The Press," December 13) that we should not always succumb to the lure of the almighty tourist dollar. Restaurants should never be built oh' scenic reserves. Even if it is built nearby on the Summit, as proposed as an alternative, it will still detract from the “wide open space” experience the Port Hills provides. The gondola with its pylons will detract from the historic Bridle Path and the fine rock formations which sweep up and enclose the Heathcote Valley. I hope there will be full public debate on alternatives before $5 million is spent on this particular tourist project. — Yours, etc.,
ROSLYN SMYTH. December 13, 1985.
