Legal view on name change
PA . Wellington The Geographic Board has accepted legal opinion that it is entitled to recommend a name change for Mount Egmont. It will not take the matter further and will consult the Crown Law Office, said the board’s secretary, Mr Kerry Twydle. The chairman, Mr Warren Hawkey, said he had seen a Lands and Survey Department solicitor. He was confident that under the Geographic Board Act the board could recommend the name be changed to Mount Taranaki.
The board will meet on January 29 to consider objections in detail.
