13 charges of forgery

A West Coast man is expected to appear in the District Court in Greymouth today on 13 charges of for6'Se man, aged 26, was arrested yesterday after an extensive police investigation into allegations of forgery of examination papers for commercial pilots’ licences.

The charges relate to papers the man is alleged to have sat at Civil Aviation examination centres in the South Island. Detectives in the Christchurch fraud squad started inquiries earlier this year after complaints by Civil Aviation about some examination papers. As a result, three men have now been arrested.

date for the trial in the District Court will be set next month. A Nelson helicopter pilot has also been arrested and faces five charges relating to the alleged forging of Civil Aviation papers in Invercargill last year. He has denied the charges and has been remanded to February 11. The Civil Aviation Division has said that it is extremely concerned about the alleged irregularities and has taken action to tighten examination procedure and prevent abuse.
