Wool prices rise again
PA Dunedin The fall in the New Zealand exchange rate showed in improved prices at the Dunedin wool sale yesterday. Crossbred prices rose at Napier on Thursday, but yesterday the lift in prices was across the full range. Fine wool generally improved about 5 per cent. The Wool Board bid on 5.3 per cent of the offering and bought 0.5 per cent — 150 bales.
Competition was across the board, demand again
coming from: countries such as Russia and China. The crossbred offering was about 72 per cent of the catalogue. The offical report said that compared with the last fine wool sale, at Christchurch bn December 5, fine Merino was in sellers’ favour, and stronger lines were up 5 per cent. Halfbred generally improved 5 per cent.
Compared with the Napier sale on Thursday, crossbred fleece rose 2.5 per cent, and second-shear skirtings and crutchings 5 per cent.
The market indicator was 466 c clean and 346 c greasy. Merino, 18 micron: Good to super to 1242, good to 1182.
