Canty showjumping success
PA Palmerston North A transformed Manawatu Sports Stadium provided the setting for the opening day of New Zealand’s inaugural indoor showjumping championships in Palmerston North yesterday, highlighted by some excellent individual performances. The arena looked as “good as the Berlin arena,” according to the chairman of the showjumping discipline committee, Mr Alan Hampton. Mr Hampton accompanied the New Zealand entry, Allan Goodall, at the World Cup Finals in West Berlin in April.
The winner of the main class yesterday afternoon was Glenn Pearce (Hunterville) with Ups and Downs,
which came in clear in the jump-off 28.38 s ahead of Maurice Beatson (Dannevirke) on Jefferson Junior, also clear in 32.395. A full South Island team is represented at Palmerston North. Susan Potts, of Christchurch, won the first grade C class in convincing style on Jasmin. Results:
