Quick arrest after Chch masseuse shot
Help from the public led to a quick arrest after a shooting at a massage parlour in Christchurch yesterday morning. Eight hours after the shooting, a man appeared in the District Court charged with discharging a firearm with reckless disregard, causing grievous bodily harm.
The defendant, aged 27, has been remanded in custody to December 13. The charge related to the shooting of a masseuse,
Susan Anne Voshaar, at the Pacific Sauna, Manchester Street, at 6.20 a.m. yesterday. Ms Voshaar, aged 19, was taken to Christchurch Hospital after being hit by shotgun pellets. She underwent surgery yesterday afternoon and was reported in a fairly comfortable condition yesterday afternoon. The shooting came after a heated discussion in the massage parlour. Detective Senior-Sergeant Arthur Rodgers said that a
member of the public got in touch with the police after becoming suspicious about activities at the parlour.
Soon afterwards, the police stopped a car in Fitzgerald Avenue.
Its occupants were spoken to and one was later charged, said Detective Senior-Sergeant Rodgers.
Further less serious charges might be \ laid against the man. The other . occupant was spoken to but no action would be taken -t against him, he said.
