World Cup dates

PA Wellington Dates and venues for matches in the 1987 World Cup are expected to be announced shortly. Dick Littlejohn, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union’s World Cup subcommittee, told the council that details would soon be finalised. Mr Littlejohn said some unions might be disappointed when venues were announced, realising they would not host a cup match, but he asked all provinces to support the tournament

regardless. “We obviously can’t play these games right throughout the country,” he said. “We have tried to be as fair as humanly possible. We want to play at as many venues as we can to give as many New Zealanders as possible the chance to see a World Cup game at home.” Mr Littlejohn assured councillors that although several games might be played at one venue, profits from the tournament would be distributed equally to all unions.
