Chch bowler unbeaten
With five wins from as many games, April McDonald, of Christchurch, was a clear winner of the singles at the women's bowls zone tournament in Blenheim this week. The Christchurch pair of Elsie Williams and Altha Triggs and the four of Margaret Lloyd, Ora Bate, Marie Watson and Denise Page both finished second to Nelson teams. Each had three wins.
Under a new system this year each section winner goes on to the national final, to be played in March at a venue yet to be decided. Mrs Triggs (Riccarton Women’s) had a convincing win in the final of the recent centre open singles. Her team was Joyce King and Ola Read and in the final they accounted for the Papanui entry of Nan Dale.
