Bubble-up sumps to be standard
Bubble-up sumps will become standard practice for the Christchurch City Council after an Ombudsman’s report on stormwater drainage. Complaints to the Ombudsman about stormwater flooding by a Hereford Street resident, Mr Allen Boyce, prompted an investigation of stormwater connections. During the investigation the council adopted the use of bubble-up sumps rather than inverted syphons. The Ombudsman found these a satisfactory substitute and they will now be in standard use.
The sumps will be in-
stalled when kerb and channel alterations are made and where an inverted syphon would have been used. The council will maintain the sumps, the works and traffic committee decided yesterday. * Cr David Close noted that the council gave Mr Boyce the option of a bubble-up sump a year ago and he had rejected it. The problem was not as widespread as Mr Boyce had made out, he said. Cr Mollie Clark said it was only Mr Boyce’s persistence that had prompted the council’s switch to the new sumps.
