Courier flight wins easily
PA Invercargill Courier Flight, runner-up in the Canterbury Gold Cup at his previous start, easily justified his favouritism for the Dominion Breweries Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B, double at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting at Invercargill yesterday. Carrying the top weight of 57kg, Courier Flight was third last in a strung out field 1000 m from home but cruised up with a minimum of effort to catch the tearaway pacemakers, Treaura and Maggie’s Hope, before the home turn. He then
quickly put the issue beyond Beau Bandy gained his third placing from as many attempts this season when he ran on strongly from the back to take seond place, a length in front of the tiring Treaura. There was almost two lengths to Great Night, which just shaded Spectacular Turn and Chokebore. The well-supported Palace Guard tailed the field throughout. Chook A Rook made it a top weight’s double when he outclassed the sprinters in the Grandstand Handicap.
