Lively Too fit for Methven

..By

JEFF SCOTT

Lively Too, which will be attempting to win the National Bloodstock Methven Breeders’ Stakes for the second successive year on Saturday, sprinted home her last 800 m in 59.4 s off the front to win at the Addington trials yesterday. The Armbro Del mare resumed after being stood down for a month following a fall at the Canterbury Park meeting on October 25 with a third at the Rangiora trials last Thursday, and looked sharpened by that outing yesterday. She led throughout the C 3 and faster heat yesterday in the hands of her Rangiora trainer, Leicester Tatterson, winning by two and a half lengths and recording 3min 30s for the 2600 m.

Wooden Heart, which trailed, fought on for second, with a similar margin to Tuapeka Wreka, which was in the open early then trailed on the outer over the last 1600 m. The remainder of the nine runners finished in a bunch without being extended, Star Lady (fifth), Hamy*s Pride (sixth) and the Thames candidate, Jack Hammer (30m), which finished on late, in particular, all appearing to be travelling well at the finish.

Game Greg and Linda Ellen, rivals in the Methven Fertiliser Trot, fought out the finish of the Cl and faster trotters’ trial, with the former finishing solidly from the third line to win by a neck in 3min 28.35, the leaders running their last 800 m in Imin 0.45.

Linda Ellen was cutting the winner back at the line and looks well for Saturday, while Lay Off, Fancy That and Not Now were close-up next.

The Murray Rennietrained Embark, which looked promising by winning a double at the Marlborough winter meeting in June, indicated he was progressing well in a new campaign by winning the Cl and 2 pace over 2600 m in 3min 31.85.

Embark, in the open for much of the running, narrowly held out the handsome Mark Lobell — Lady’s Rule colt, Here Comes Duke, an impressive first-up

winner at Washdyke in October, which trailed on the outer yesterday. The Orari winner, World of Fame, and Penta, finished on late to be next, the leaders running their last 400 m in 30.85.

Idle Thoughts (3min 30.25) and Graceland (trot, 3min 34.55), were Methven maiden prospects to win yesterday, while Enticing, a three-year-old sister to Born to Win (Imin 59.85) in Derek Jones’s Templeton team, showed dash to win her maiden heat in 3min 30.95, her last 400 m in 30s. Results:-
