Ararua to go to daylight time
PA Whangarei The residents of the Northland town of Ararua will stop defying daylight time and synchronise their watches with the rest of New Zealand later this month.
The community’s decision to put its clocks forward an hour did not mean the battle against daylight time had run out of tick, said a spokesman. Mr Peter Russell said that Ararua supported daylight time but wanted it introduced after the school year finished and the dairy season was over.
As a result, the Ararua Time Committee had decided to switch to daylight time when it would cause less stress to families and the cows.
Mr Russell said that a definite switch-over date had not yet been set but he thought it would probably be about December 13.
