Merivale rates hitch
Merivale residents wanting Christchurch City Council funds for their park and mews village development may find little joy until they pay up their unpaid rates. Councillors at a meeting yesterday of the council’s policy and finance committee noted that the Merivale Precinct Society had said at a public meeting on Sunday that it would present a detailed proposal on the development to the City Coun-
cil yesterday. Its aim was to get council funds for the park and lake reserve in the project Cr John Bum asked if the proposal had been ' presented. When told it had not, he said the council should not consider it until Merivale residents paid their rates arrears. “Frankly, they have a cheek asking when they are withholding rates,” he said. Other councillors agreed.
