L.P.G. tanker accident

PA New Plymouth A full L.P.G. tanker ran off State highway 3 in the Awakino Gorge, 45km from New Plymouth, last evening and its cab ianded in the Awakino River. The driver, John Arthur Skellem, of Bell Block, was in a satisfactory condition in Taranaki Base Hospital. No one else was injured in the accident, 13km north of Awakino at 6 p.m. The tanker was not leaking.

Emergency services planned to work through the night to: empty the 28,500 litres of L.P.G. from the damaged vehicle into an empty tanker.
