Jellie Park rape charge

A man, aged 42, charged with the rape of a girl, aged 15, was remanded yesterday to January 23 for the taking of depositions. George Edwin Milne, a foreman (Mr M. J. Glue), was appearing before Judge Paterson in the District Court The charge relates to the alleged rape of a girl in Jellie Park on November 1. Interim suppression of the name of the accused was earlier refused. Although initially refused, Milne was granted continuation of the bail granted last week in the High Court. CARELESS USE On a charge of causing the death of Karen Marie Ward by carelessly using a car, Selwyn Warren Waaka was remanded on bail of 5500 to November 25. Waaka, aged 34, unemployed, who did not plead, is charged with committing the offence on November 10. Police did not oppose bail. MURDER CHARGE Because a psychiatric report is not yet available, a further remand was sought to November 18 for a man charged with murder. Maurice Scott Vine, aged 33, unemployed (Miss P. D. Costigan), was remanded to Sunnyside Hospital.

He is charged with the murder of Maureen Anne Vine, aged 31, on November 2. The body of Mrs Vine was found by police in a house at Rolleston. BURGLARY CHARGE Thomas Boy Hohapata, who appeared in court on Saturday facing charges relating to the rape of two women, was yesterday charged with breaking into their Woolston home on November 4. Hohapata, aged . 30, a painter (Mr G. N. Langham), was remanded in custody to November 14. Bail was opposed by the police. BURGLARY CHARGE Bail was opposed for two men jointly charged with breaking and entering the Bealey Avenue premises of Microwave Specialists on November 11. Phillip Edwin Galbraith, aged 21, a labourer, and Tamati William Gray, aged 20, unemployed, were both remanded to November 18. Galbraith was .remanded in custody. Gray was allowed bail of ?2000. The charge results from a high-speed car chase which ended when the car struck a tree. Inside the vehicle were three microwave ovens.
