Mutton up

Advance payments for mutton grades have been increased 4c to 10c a kilogram in the schedule of export prices to farmers for next week. The improvement reflects the Meat Board’s ability to make contracts in strengthening foreign currencies as against completed contracts which were in United States dollars. “In the short term, storage and financing periods will be less than had been expected,” said the board yesterday. The new price for hogget, HL grade, is 61.5 c and for HX grade, 62.5 c. MLI mutton is 61.5 c,. ML2 66c; MH 24c; MXI 62.5 c; MX2 66.5 c; MM 60c; MF 19.5 c; MP 30c; Ram 24c. No change has been made to the advance payments for lamb grades ana the premium for certain prime grades still applies. Lamb woolly skin prices have been reduced 35c a head. Beef prices are unchanged.
