Nurses’ pay rise to be ‘larger’
PA Auckland Nurses would get an interim payment, larger than the general adjustment paid to other State servants, said the Minister of Health, Dr Bassett, last evening. The “deposit” on November 10 would be followed by a final adjustment which would take into account nurses’ claims in respect of recruitment and retention.
The Canterbury branch of the Nurses’ Association would hold a rally on Tuesday, which would be addressed by the association executive director, Miss Patricia Carroll.
“We expect to find out the details of the pay offer then, and will find out what action would be most likely,” said Mrs Beverley Robb, past secretary of the Canterbury branch. Nurses were getting “fed up” with waiting, she said. A large turnout is exEed at the rally, to be at the Theatre Royal at 7.30 p.m.
