UBS still in lead
PA Auckland The Whitbread fleet leaders were running out of wind off the African coast as they approached the Doldrums yesterday. The Farr maxi ÜBS Switzerland was still in front of her round-the-world rivals but her lead had been cut to about 170 kilometres -by the Holland designed Lion New Zealand and the masthead Farr maxi Portatan.
NZI Enterprise had closed to about 90 kilometres astern of Lion, running fourth in fleet, race headquarters reported.
