A. Butt out for two days
The top junior reinsman, Anthony Butt, will be unable to fulfil his driving engagements at the Banks Peninsula meeting today and Forbury Park tonight after being suspended for two driving days at an appeal in Christchurch on Thursday evening. . Butt was appealing against a suspension imposed after driving the maiden, Calitz, at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt Park on August 30.
The appeal judges, Messrs W. G. P. Cuningham, E. T. McDermott and B. H. O’Malley were unanimous in finding the facts merited a period of suspension. Butt was also fined $5OO costs against the appeal and
his $lOO appeal deposit was forfeited. Although Butt’s appeal was dismissed, his initial suspension of two weeks was reduced to two days (until next Tuesday), enabling him to resume at the Canterbury Park meeting at Addington Raceway on Wednesday. Yesterday afternoon, Butt’s employer Derek Jones had made alternative driving arrangements for his team engaged at Motukarara and Forbury Park. Derek’s son, Peter Jones, will now drive Some Joy and Game Circle, and Anthony’s father, Murray Butt, will take the reins behind the open class pacer, Premiership, in the first leg of the T.A.B. double, and
Canto Boy, at Motukarara. The Branxholme reinsman, Henry Skinner, has been engaged for Ready to Go, and the Gore horseman, Robin Swain, for Sharadel, at Forbury. Other amended or additional driving engagements for the Banks Peninsula meeting today are:— Race 1: Carry on Charlie, C. de Filippi; Meridian Star, E. Ryan. Race 4: Major Padero, J. Carmichael. Race 7: Main Point, M. de Filippi. Race 8: Gay Wee Fella, D. Townley. Race 9: Danny Cord, C. de Filippi; Jayess, J. Carmichael.
