Borrowed Time top chance at Motukarara
By
G. K. YULE
Borrowed Time should go close to qualifying for intermediate events at the New Zealand Cup carnival next month when he contests the Waihora Park Centennial Handicap at Motukarara today. Borrowed Time will be opposed by a number of other capable C2 trotters also striving to qualify for Addington, but his bold run for second to Super Mouse at Methven on September 21 suggested that a win was close at hand.
The son of Game Pride and White Plains has developed considerably during his winter lay-off and there is little doubt that he will be much in demand with offcourse betters today as his race is the final leg of the T.A.B. treble at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s spring meeting. Firm Offer, another four-year-old, made her first apKance for the season at iven, too, and she trotted a grand race for fifth. She, too, should have benefited from that run and
several subsequent appearances at trials.. The long straight should enable her to use her great stamina to good advantage. Soon finished boldly for third to Signor Gabrielli at the drivers’ championship meeting at Addington Raceway, only to lose her placing for breaking near the end. She looks close to worth while form and will need only average luck to get into the finish. There will be support, too, for the Graham Courttrained Front Up, unbeaten in his last two starts, the
most recent of which was at Washdyke last Saturday when he recorded the smart time of 3min 31.65.
Danny Cord could be the pick of the horses on the front, but he should be held quite safely by the likes of a Sumae, Reb’s . Star and • Gamekeeper, all handi- ® capped on 20m. The Ted Lowe Memorial M and the Lincoln Village Sup-' porters’ Handicap are the other legs of the treble,* Lord Kara and Uncle Alex ~ being two of the more candidates. •
