Poor U.K. meat demand
PA Wellington Continued consumer indifference to all meat products was reflected in a disappointing trade at wholesale in Britain this week, according to the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. Domestic beef trading remained largely unchanged and has been affected by erratic availability and. gridng of southern Irish Domestic lambs advanced by 4p a lb at live auction but this was not reflected in an increase in hook prices New Zealand lamb volumes have been modest in the face of this slack market and heavy offerings of domestic product On the Smithfield market this week New Zealand PL grade lambs were quoted at 59.5 p to 60.5 p a ID ($NZ3.22 to SNZ3JB a kg). Prices for imported manufacturing beef in the United States continued to firm this week, in spite of a rebounding domestic market and a shortage of offerings from New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand cow beef averaged US9I.C a lb c.iX (1NZ3.51 a kg), up half a cent on last week while bull beef remained the same, averaging 1U51.025 a lb c.i.f. (5NZ3.94 a kg).
