Rainbow Warrior
Sir,—"Greenpeace to litter seabed” would nave made a more poignant headline about the plans for a future resting place for the Rainbow Warrior. It is a tortuous logic which suggests that an underwater memorial is appropriate. It is too much in line with French plans for the vessel. If the ship was preserved on land many more people would be reminded of the tragic and foolish events. It appears to be simply more convenient for one reason or another to dump the wreck at sea — rather like the motives of France in selecting the Pacific for the disposal of the unwanted products of their nuclear tests. Rust in peace, Rainbow Warrior. — Yours, etc., STEWART ROBERTSON. Greymouth, October 9, 1985.
