Women winning authors
PA Auckland Women won the top two prizes in the Wattie Book of the Year competitions, and share in the third. The winner was Janet Frame, who received the award for the third segment for her continuing autobiography, “The Envoy From Mirror City.” Second was the prominent trade unionist, Sonja Davies, for her autobiography, “Bread and Roses.” Margaret Orbell and Geoff Moon won third prize for “Natural World of the Maori.” The books were chosen from 66 entries by Mr David Elworthy, Ms Susan Kedgley, and Mr Witi Ihimaera. Prizes for the winning entries are respectively $7OOO, $3OOO, and $2OOO.
