Jackpot for shield $770

Once again no-one managed to get both the halftime and full-time scores correct in the jackpot competition run by “The Press on last Saturday’s Ranfurly Shield challenge by North Auckland. However, plenty of entries were close. N. R. Craig, of 62 Hollyford Avenue, came the closest. He was right on target with a final score of 29-3, but was slighty astray with his half-time prediction of 12-0. It was 15-3.

Others to go close were K J. Foster, of 63 Dunbars Road, with 28-3 (half-time 15-0), Amy Nimmo, of Railway Terrace, Sheffield, with 27-3 (9-0), and Craig Winter, of 115 Mooray Place, also with 27-3 (9-3). All these entrants will receive consolation prizes of double tickets to this Saturday’s challenge by Auck-

land. The tickets will be in the mail today. The jackpot on the Auckland challenge will rise to $770, and if the shield shouldchangehands, and there are no correct entries, the money will go to the closest.

The entry coupons will be published tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, and extra copies will be available at “The Press” offices.

All entries must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, and this includes those sent to the box number on the coupon. Last week there was a higher percentage than usual of scores in favour of the challenger, and one entrant was tempting fate a little with a score of 0-0. However, at least he had more chance than the one who predicted a 5-3 win to Canterbury.
