Greenpeace plans to sue France
NZPA-AFP Paris Greenpeace plans to take France to the European Court of Human Rights and the World Court over the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior.
Greenpeace’s chairman, Mr David McTaggart, told a press conference in Paris yesterday that a top United States lawyer, Mr Lloyd Cutler, had offered his services, and that they would meet in Paris next week. Mr Cutler was counsel to
a former United States
President, Mr Jimmy Carter, and special counsel on the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT-2) negotiations with the Soviet Union.
Mr McTaggart said his organisation could take France to the European Court on its own, but would hav£ to convince New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Mr Lange, to submit a complaint to the World Court on behalf of Greenpeace.
