Kaikoura shooting: man arrested
A shepherd, aged 26, has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of a man in the Kaikoura district on Saturday. Geoffrey William Inkersell, a shepherd, aged 24, was reported seriously ill in Christchurch Hospital yesterday after being shot in the head. The shooting happened on Cloudy Range station, a high-country sheep run between Kaikoura and Waiau. The police were told by a ’ doctor of the incident about 5 a.m. on Saturday. A .22 calibre rifle was recovered. An ambulance from Kaikoura took Mr Inkersell to Cheviot. He was then transferred to another ambulance and taken to Christchurch. The arrested man will appear in the District Court today on a charge of wounding with intent. Both men are from Kaikoura.
