Badminton title
fa Rotorua Kerrin Harrison (North Shore) convincingly won the men’s singles title at the North Island badminton championships here last evening. The second-seeded Harrison, aged 21, dropped only five points in each game to beat Glenn Stewart (Auckland) 15-5, 15-5. Harrison played cool percentage badminton throughout the day and never looked like dropping a set in the singles. His 15-4, 15-8 win over John Miles (Auckland) in the semifinals was equally impressive. The surprise of the tournament came in the quarter-
finals when the top seed and
New Zealand No. ‘l, Graeme Robson, was knocked ■ out by Ryan Whittle (Auckland) 15-13, 15-12. Robson had not played for two weeks because of an arm injury. However, he came back later in the day to win the men’s doubles with Phil Horne (North Shore) and the mixed doubles with Toni Whittaker (Auckland). Whittaker showed she was in top form with three titles. She beat Karen Phillips (Counties) 11-4, 11-4 to win the women’s singles final and combined with Phillips to take the women’s doubles.
