Close jet boat finish
Only two seconds separated the first two boats home in the race for the main honours at the Glasskraft Trophy jet boat race on the Waimakariri River on Saturday. Peter Munro and Don Sollitt, of Christchurch, who race Second Attempt in partnership, won in Ihr 14min 555, two seconds ahead of Steve Kirner, of Christchurch, in Hit Radio 3ZM. Dave Matterson, of Belfast, driving Dark Horse, was third in lhr 19min Bs. Two of the more favoured of the 50 jet boaters to take part, Mike Pooley, and Angus McFarlane, of Christchurch. both failed to finish.
