Table tennis to Kaiapoi High
Kaiapoi High School won this year’s Canterbury inter schools teams table tennis tournament held at the weekend after two semi-final upsets.
Its opponents in . the final, Cashmere High School had beaten top seed and last year’s winner, Shirley Boys High School, while Kaiapoi beat the second seed, Christchurch Boys High School. The final was a close encounter, in doubt right up to the final match, won by Dale Gray and Brian Steere.
However, the turning point was Jendy Harper’s 22-26 win in the third set over Stephen Dunn.
The primary intermediate section was won by Cashmere Intermediate which beat Cathedral Grammar 6-5 in a close final. Results — Secondary section.— Quarter
finals: Shirley Boys High School No 1 beat St Bedes No 1 5-0; Cashmere High School No 1 beat Lincoln High School 5-0; Kaiapoi High School beat Avonside Girls High School 3-0; Christchurch Boys High School No 1 beat Burnside High School 5-0. Semi finals: Cashmere beat Shirley 3-1; Kaiapoi beat Christchurch B.H.S. 3-1.
Final: Kaiapoi (Jendy Harper, Dale Gray and Brian Steere) beat Cashmere (Evan Radford, Jane Sayers and Stephen Dunn) 3-2. Primary/Intermediate section.— Semi finals; Cathedral Grammar beat Ellesmere School 5-0; Cashmere Primary red bbat Cashmere Primary black 5-0.
Filial:. Cashmere red (Simon McMillan, Jonathon Button and Sam Mellor) beat Cathedral Grammar (Mark Roberts, Justin Nuttall and Matthew Kaa) 6-5. ■. 1
