Peter Bannan, a Christchurch photographer and film-maker, is this year’s winner of the C.S.A. Guthrey travel award. Mr Bannan will use the $l2OO, including air tickets, provided by the annual award to a young Canterbury artist, to travel to Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra to visit galleries and institutions to study photography. He plans to go to Australia later this year. A graduate of the University of Canterbury, Mr Bannan has a Diploma in Fine Arts and another in teaching. He has exhibited in six solo shows at the C.S.A. and contributed to group shows at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery. On a P.E.P. scheme he started the Greymouth Art Gallery. Most recently he has worked at the McDougall, photographing South Island artists for the gallery’s archives. His prints may also be exhibited as a show. Mr Bannan has also made band videos and films, in-

eluding one for the Arthritis Society. During his trip to Australia Mr Bannan will investigate the development of photography and film and the display and storage of prints. The award was announced by the director of the C.S.A., Mrs Nola Barron, yesterday.
